Catalina Flight

In May, I was extremely lucky to have been invited to fly on the only Catalina flying outside the Americas today, with grateful thanks to the Catalina Society for all its work in keeping the Catalina G-PBYA in the air. Here are two videos of our flight, filmed by Chris Warne of the USAAF Heritage Trust. We flew from IWM Duxford down to London, quite a challenge for the pilots in such crowded air space. The videos give a sense of what it would have been like for Bob Keddie and his crew in 1942, although the weather on our flight was perfect unlike the fierce conditions in the Norwegian Sea and Arctic. Also, back then, the navigational aids were very primitive compared with today.
